This monumental work is considered the pinnacle of baroque variation art – both scholarly and playful, full of dance-like elegance and virtuosic brilliance. In 30 variations, Bach unfolds a breathtaking diversity of forms and technical challenges that reflect his entire compositional mastery. Although originally conceived for harpsichord, the performance on the organ opens up a fascinating new sound world, bringing out the instrument's rich colors and architectural grandeur, thus providing a fitting conclusion to the season.
