Description
Emerging from the vibrant Chicago scene, multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist, and educator Isaiah Collier has made a name for himself, particularly as a saxophonist, whether with his own projects, as part of the Angel Bat Dawid collective, or alongside artists like Chance The Rapper, Waddada Leo Smith III, or Junius Paul. For him, jazz is not a relic of the past, but a living language. With his group, the Chosen Few, Collier creates long narrative compositions that blend spiritual jazz, collective improvisation, and societal themes. His albums are praised for their intensity and ambition, and in concert, the artist is known for performances that slowly transform into almost ritualistic musical experiences. His music is in the lineage of the spiritual experiences initiated by John Coltrane, whose music he will perform tonight.
