Already during the first IRRLICHTER tour two years ago, a possible misunderstanding was quickly cleared up after the start of each performance with the enthusiastic audience: IRRLICHTER is not a Rio Reiser cover show! It is a homage to the exceptional artist and a deep bow to the man who is extraordinary in many ways – even in his breaks! With IRRLICHTER, Frank Leo Schröder has written an intense program that contains exclusively songs by Rio Reiser from all phases of his work; from the first Ton Steine Scherben LP "Warum geht es mir so dreckig" (1971) to the last solo album "Himmel & Hölle" (1995); and yet it is much more than a concert. IRRLICHTER is woven with Rio Reiser's original sound bites far beyond the songs. Blocks of thoughts and snippets that make the person behind the artist visible and which, to a significant extent, were entrusted to Schröder for editing by Gert Möbius, Rio's brother, make the program unique. The result is intense, emotional, also funny, stirring, and although there will never be ultimate truths, the audience finds after about two hours what Rio considered so important throughout his life: authenticity! Together with his great actress colleague Dana Golombek from Senden and the talented musician and singer Kai Dannowski, Schröder reactivates IRRLICHTER, not just with favorite songs of Rio Reiser. The stage piece, united by Rio's songs, encompasses his entire thinking and feeling. And perhaps it might sound a bit pathetically: Golombek, Schröder, and Dannowski succeed in condensing Rio Reiser's entire being into its essence. They act as a trio like a medium, leaving the audience with the feeling that Rio, through the three performers, has greeted from the beyond into this world once again and has cleared up clichés to show people who he really was, what his goals were, his dreams, and how he meant it when he shouted "Keine Macht für niemand!" or opened his soul wide for the audience with "Für immer und Dich" until total exhaustion. It has already been thirty years since this wonderful person and artist died too young on August 20, 1996. The fact that the audience responded enthusiastically at all concerts of the first tour and the reasons for traveling through the country again with IRRLICHTER to carry on Rio Reiser's legacy, his songs, his thinking, his feeling.
