Ímmaqa – Maybe

Description

Ímmaqa is Greenlandic and means ‘maybe’, ‘let's see’, ‘who knows’. It is a word that young Swiss emerging filmmaker Nils Bühler often heard when he traveled to the Arctic for the first time in spring 2025, together with his father, Greenland photographer Markus Bühler. For a month, father and son stayed with Inuit families in Qaanaaq, the northernmost settlement in the world. Their goal – to accompany Inughuit hunters and their sons on the ice and document their encounters through film and photography. But what happens if everything turns out differently than planned on the way there, and Ímmaqa becomes a mantra for weeks? During the tour, you will discover the stories behind the images: two fathers, two sons, four perspectives on a rapidly changing world. Learn how traditions are preserved and how young Inuit are relearning to survive on the ice.
