III. ABONENTNÍ KONCERT

Description

The third subscription concert of the season will open with Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. This is one of the most famous works of Russian program music from the 19th century, depicting a witches' sabbath on Midsummer Night. Following this, the Concert Piece for Four Horns and Orchestra by Robert Schumann will be performed, a technically demanding piece that requires extraordinary interpreters. The solo parts will be taken by Zuzana Rzounková, Jan Vobořil, Jan Vobořil younger, and Alois Stavárek. The evening will conclude with the monumental symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben by Richard Strauss. This work, often regarded as the pinnacle of his late romantic creation, is characterized by an exceptionally rich and grand sound.
