Hybride Formen, Bruit – Group for Music Creation

Description

Third Space is a project initiated by Bruit in collaboration with Richard Barrett and Milana Zaric. Inspired by the concept of hybridity by postcolonial theorist Homi K. Bhabha, it explores a space where different aesthetics, traditions, and musical practices meet and intertwine without any one dominating. The ensemble and its program thus move between electronic instrument building and traditional acoustic instrumentation, between composition and improvisation. Artists from diverse backgrounds and with different practices are brought together. Patricia Bosshard's composition explores an extended temporality where sound and instrumental colors constantly change. Cathy van Eck's music unfolds a scenic sound universe that is both unsettling and fascinating. Live sampling, instrumental playing, and performative actions are interconnected. Following Tautologos III, the legendary and rarely performed work by Luc Ferrara, the program is crowned by music from Anthony Braxton: three layered pieces from two key periods, showcasing the inexhaustible creativity of the unique figure of American avant-garde in a wonderful way. Bruit – Group for Music Creation was founded in 2021 by Jonas Kocher and Gaudenz Badrutt and unites improvisers, performers, and composers. The ensemble is committed to both contemporary music and the interpretation of rarely performed historical works of the twentieth century, with a particular focus on collective processes.
