Description

Genre-crossing band famous for musical interpretations of Czech poets' texts, as well as their own distinctive compositions. The band with the unconventional name Hm… processes the poetry of Czech poets (Šrámek, Seifert, Sova, Neruda, Kainar, Kremlička, Šruta, and younger authors) in a very personal and modern way, as well as their own original texts. They have released seven albums (Ehm... – 1997, …that could be interesting – 2000, Lunch – 2004, Plan for Winter – 2008, Boyish Things – 2011, Good Hunting – 2013, No Problem – 2019), reflecting the life stages of their members at the time. Boyish Things is dedicated to children's songs, as the musicians had 11 offspring at the time, while Good Hunting captures the struggles of midlife crises and tumbles in the lives of middle-aged men. The songs from the last album No Problem hide the disillusionment and uncertainty of fortysomething feelings, but also hope in the form of a life perspective. It is no coincidence that two members of the band come from the long-standing roots of Tata Bojs, and it is no coincidence that the band's songs are part of the black comedy Where is that Fish? at the Dejvice Theatre. The musical range of the group is rich; their songs can be tenderly singer-songwriter, classically danceable, formally quirky, or even almost rock or punk. The group Hm… has been holding onto its poetics for years – listeners can enjoy musical diversity and playfulness, as well as unpretentious purity, simplicity, fragility, and sincerity.
