Description
The Landestheater Linz brings a grand stage to the monastery. This operetta - composed in the early 1930s and only discovered in 2026 by the Linz Opera and performed for the first time - tells a cheerful love and mistaken identity story, where nocturnal encounters, misunderstandings, and romantic entanglements ultimately lead to a happy ending. Walter Kaufmann (1907–1984) was a German-Czech composer, conductor, and musicologist of Jewish origin. After the rise of the Nazi regime, he initially emigrated to India, where he influenced the musical scene, and later to the United States. He composed operas, operettas, symphonies, chamber music, and film scores, and is considered one of the significant, long-overlooked exile composers of the 20th century.
