The Badische Landesbühne presents the one-woman musical by Austrian composer, chanson singer, and cabaret artist Georg Kreisler. Austria in March 1938. Lola Blau is at the beginning of her theater career. The young, Jewish woman has completed her acting training in Vienna, and an engagement in Linz awaits her. So why should she care that times are turbulent? Hitler marches into Austria, and Lola flees to Switzerland, later to the USA. After the war, she returns to her homeland and must realize that life there is still far from a tolerant coexistence.
Georg Kreisler wrote this entertaining yet bitter one-person play in 1971. "Tonight: Lola Blau" allows the audience to experience how Lola Blau tries to escape the Nazi threat with wit and melancholy about art, love, and her obsessions with show business. It touches the heart and mind, is intelligent and wicked, making the audience laugh and cry. In the production at the Badische Landesbühne, the audience experiences actress, dancer, and musical performer Laura Brettschneider.
