Hand mixer «Gerda», cherry pitter «Kernex», refrigerator «Sibir» or vacuum cleaner «Super Max» – the small and large helpers in the household represented more than just ease of work. They promised comfort, progress, and a piece of independence. The special exhibition «Gerda, Kernex, Sibir. Practical Devices in the Household» presents a wide range of household appliances from the own collection as well as posters, photos, and films from the 1940s to the 1970s. They vividly show the increasing mechanization of the household. Whether mechanical or electric: The modern miracle machines promised ease and elegance in housework. Works by Roman Signer and Hans Schweizer complement the exhibition with an artistic perspective on irons and steam cookers.
