Description

How does one deal with the changes that inevitable aging brings? This question is approached with humor and poetry by the – now fifty-year-old – exceptional talents Martin Zimmermann and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. One comes from contemporary circus and object theater and delighted us last season at Nebia with *LOUISE*; the other is choreographer and director of the Ballet at Grand Théâtre de Genève. In *HAS BEEN*, they embody two characters deeply marked by time. Through them, Cherkaoui and Zimmermann playfully explore and reflect on their own artistic mortality and document the stages of decay together. We learn to view the latter anew here… and celebrate it on our stage in Biel for the Swiss French-speaking premiere! **Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui on Martin Zimmermann** "Working with Martin is enormously entertaining and deeply inspiring. We started developing our own productions at the same time and when we were very young. I was amazed by his eclectic work between theater and dance, the choreographic handwriting he developed, and his soaring achievements. Larbi has always ventured into uncomfortable zones to draw creativity from them. I see myself in this approach to art. We carry many similarities deep within us, which make me feel incredibly comfortable and understood in my work. However, our handwriting styles are completely different. This makes the upcoming collaboration all the more exciting: I am very much looking forward to this promising friction and artistic exchange.
