Cardinal Michael Czerny – Priest with Jewish Roots (Czech Republic, 2025, Martin Reiner, 25 min) The film Happy Days in Brno captures the everyday life of the Brno Jewish family Lax before the Nazi occupation through unique home movie footage. The film's author, Eduard Lax, survived the Holocaust, while his wife and two children perished. A powerful testimony of a world that has irretrievably vanished. Letters from Brno is an award-winning documentary about love, sacrifice, and the search for a family history marked by the Holocaust. After the screening, there will be a short video discussion with the author Karen Kruger. A documentary portrait of Cardinal Michael Czerny, a native of Brno, Jesuit, and close collaborator of Pope Francis. The film follows his life journey from a family marked by the Holocaust through emigration to Canada to service in the Vatican, presenting an extraordinary story of faith, courage, and human solidarity.
