He gifts the world an unforgettable story and provides himself and his wife with a remedy for grief and suffering. The film Hamnet is backed by several remarkable names. It began with the eponymous book by author Maggie O'Farrell, which became one of the bestsellers of 2020. In its adaptation, legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes joined forces as producers, entrusting the most important role to Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland). "Even while reading, cinematic images sprang to my mind, which was a clear sign for me. I immediately fell in love with this story. I love stories that are very universal yet exceptional at the same time. And that is exactly what Hamnet is," says the director.
