Description
For two weeks a year, the Upper Engadine turns golden; by then, the larch trees are bare again, and you’ll regret having missed it. I’ll be there for four days this October and will take up to eight people with me each day. We’ll set out at ten in Pontresina, take a leisurely hike into a side valley, make plenty of stops, have a picnic wherever we feel like lingering, and arrive at a lake in the evening just in time for the golden hour. We’ll head back by headlamp and be back at the train station around seven. I don’t care what kind of camera you have—a cell phone is perfectly fine. While others are geeking out about lenses and tripods, we’d rather focus on where the light is falling and how you can use it to create a photo you’ll want to share. I’m a photographer and mountain guide, and I’ll look over your shoulder throughout the day if you’d like. Fitness level: If you can walk for a few hours, you’ll be fine. If you come alone, you’ll be in good company—most people come alone or in pairs. And if there’s snow on the golden larch trees: all the better—that’s the picture of the year.
