Gian Marchet Colani - Der Freischütz - An Engadine Hunter Opera

Description

The hunt is a major theme not only in Engadine but throughout Graubünden. To conclude the hunting season, Opera Engiadina will produce a genuine Engadine Hunter Opera in October 2026 under the patronage of the Graubünden Hunter Association. The story (scenario by Claudio Danuser and Manfred Ferrari) is based on Carl Maria von Weber's famous opera "Der Freischütz". The plot (scenario by Claudio Danuser and Manfred Ferrari) is tailored to the "König vom Bernina", the legendary Engadine hunter Gian Marchet Colani from Pontresina (1772 – 1835), who was said to have shot with cursed bullets, which corresponds exactly to the free bullets motif in "Der Freischütz". The opera centers around the famous Wolf's Gorge scene, which will be set in the Ova da Bernina gorge near Pontresina, as well as the popular hunter's chorus, sung here in Romansh language for the first time by Engadine and Graubünden hunters.

General Information
