Geology in the Podbořany Region

Description

The new permanent exhibition Geology in the Podbořany region is enriched with rare exhibits, created by original connection of reconstructions by painter J. Svoboda with the exhibited natural history. Visitors can thus see a unique fossilised tree trunk of a horsetail discovered in the Podbořansko region and the first reconstruction of a 300-million-year-old tree created in cooperation with Czech and German palaeobotanists. A cast of a limestone slab with the skeleton of a Tertiary platypus found as early as 1690 in Valč. Another rare novelty is a collection of glass opals with a demonstration of their luminescence in UV light. The exposition is enriched with microphotographs of minerals by P. Fuchs and XL samples of typical Podbořany rocks (raw materials) and photographs of their localities.
