Description

The band ĠENN, founded in Malta and based in Brighton, with Anglo-Maltese roots, consists of Janelle Borg (guitar), Sofia Rosa Cooper (drums), Leona Farrugia (vocals), and Leanne Zammit (bass). ĠENN sees itself as a sisterhood, founded on instinctive trust and the experimental encounter of multinational backgrounds. The four members bring Maltese, British, Jamaican, and Portuguese roots. Their bold geographical step was reflected in their debut album «unum» from 2023 – an album celebrated as a daring journey through experimental rock, post-punk, and Mediterranean folk music. The band received much praise from BBC6, KEXP, Pitchfork, The Independent, Loud & Quiet, CLASH, Under the Radar, DIY, and The Line of Best Fit. The joint video for the single «The Sister Of» was nominated for a UK Music Video Award. It is therefore hardly surprising that this has led to various invitations on the international stage, including performances at renowned showcase festivals such as Eurosonic (NL) and The Great Escape (UK), as well as tours with the Sub Pop noise rock giants METZ, the emerging post-punkers Deadletter, and the global artist collective Pussy Riot.
