Generali Run The Sun - Ascona Locarno Marathon

From March 5 to 7, 2027, the Ascona-Locarno region will host the first edition of the Generali Run The Sun – Ascona-Locarno Marathon, which will become the first marathon of the year in Switzerland. This new major sporting event will allow thousands of enthusiasts to kick off the season in an exceptional setting, characterized by the mild climate of Lake Maggiore and particularly varied and spectacular courses. Event Overview The event offers different distances suitable for all levels. The Marathon takes participants over 42 km along the shores of Lake Maggiore, crossing the region's most iconic lakeside promenades and some of its most evocative landscapes. The Half Marathon, starting from the Tenero Sports Center, guides runners to Locarno via a pleasant and panoramic course. The 10 km, also available in walking version, is the ideal distance for those who want to enjoy the event's atmosphere on an accessible route offering beautiful views of the lake. The 5 km - GP Città Vecchia Locarno takes participants to the historic heart of the city, through narrow alleys, squares, and the famous ascent of Via delle Monache, which gives the race a unique character. The program is completed by the Children's Race, dedicated to young runners, who can discover the joys of running around Piazza Grande. The heart of the event will be Piazza Grande in Locarno, which will host the Event Village offering activities, entertainment, catering, and partner spaces. The PalExpo FEVI will house the extensive Expo Area, where bibs are collected, meetings with companies and brands from the running sector take place, and many activities for enthusiasts.
