Description

Guest/Labor is a music and dance theater piece that explores the concepts of "guest" and "labor" as social, physical, and emotional categories. The parents of the performers, Linda Pilar Brodhag and Ljubiša Kimpanov, came to Germany in the 1960s as so-called guest workers from Spain and ex-Yugoslavia. Sixty years later, their children are on stage, encountering their parents' stories as something that continues to live within them – in their breath, gestures, the rhythm of work and rest, in melodies, jokes, and fears. The starting point is a living room that transforms into a hybrid stage space over the course of the evening, blending talk show, dance hall, and memorial site. Parents and other migrant workers share their stories via video and sound. Reality and exaggeration overlay each other. An unstable space emerges where multiplicity of voices, overwhelm, and humor become part of the engagement with belonging and work in all its forms.
