Instructor: Klára Poskočilová, costume designer of the Kjógen Theatre, program director of the Eigasai Film Festival. Come spend a pleasant pre-Christmas time with us and try the Japanese magic of wrapping gifts in furoshiki. All you need is a square scarf, a few knots, and an ordinary item becomes a practical art. Furoshiki is not just a piece of fabric. It is a wrapping that you can give along with the gift. And when you unwrap it, the scarf definitely doesn't end up in the trash like used paper; it can become a handbag, a book cover, a bottle bag, or even another gift. The history of furoshiki dates back to the 16th century, and perhaps even further. Visitors to traditional public baths wrapped their clothes and belongings in a square scarf, often marked with a family crest. This way, they could easily recognize their bundle and carry it comfortably. And even though we have plenty of bags today, this practical tradition continues. The colors and patterns of the scarves have their significance, and furoshiki can be a beautiful gift in itself—especially for lovers of Japanese culture. Come tie your first knot. You might find that wrapping gifts can be just as fun as unwrapping them. The workshop is suitable for participants from 12 years old and up. The price includes:
- theoretical introduction, - practical demonstrations and practice of tying with the instructor's assistance - one high-quality cotton FUROSHIKI SCARF 50x50 cm with a design of your choice imported directly from Japan, which you will take home. There will also be an option to purchase additional scarves from Japan with the most beautiful designs (in sizes 50x50 cm or 70x70 cm) on-site.
