Guided Tour of Heiligkreuzkapelle

Description

The Carolingian Heiligkreuzkapelle may only be visited with a guided tour. It is somewhat isolated today, but was formerly integrated into the monastery complex. The chapel dates back to the 8th century, like the monastery church, and thus from the time of Charlemagne. The original Carolingian mortar floor is visible on the upper floor. Up to ten layers of paint and plaster once covered the walls of Heiligkreuzkapelle. During the tour, you will gain insight into the wall paintings from various periods and learn more about the former valuable furnishings of this chapel. Additionally, at 14:00, there will be a guided tour of the church and monastery museum. If you participate in both tours (church & monastery museum and Heiligkreuzkapelle), you will receive a discounted admission. Ask at the monastery shop for details.

General Information
