Description

Innerrhoder holiday, during which, in good weather, magnificent processions take place in various villages, where the Innerrhoder festival dress is worn. The Fronleichnam church service in Appenzell is celebrated in good weather at 08:45 in the courtyard of the St. Antonius Gymnasium. Afterwards, the magnificent procession with stations on the Landsgemeindeplatz and in front of the Chlos schoolhouse proceeds to the parish church of St. Mauritius for the final blessing. In doubtful weather (publication at www.kath-appenzell.ch), the Eucharist service is held at 08:45 in the parish church of St. Mauritius, with a short or no procession afterwards (decision at the last minute by the pastor). Also, in the villages around Appenzell, Fronleichnam services, sometimes with processions (in good weather), take place: such as in Schwende, Brülisau, Gonten, Eggerstanden, Haslen, and Schlatt. >More information about the tradition The museums and shops with Sunday permits are open, as well as the Tourist Information Office in Appenzell from 11:00 to 16:00.
