The new trio FRI3SER, led by Winterthur pianist and composer Lucca Fries, makes music with physical intensity and direct emotionality. Dark, drone-like piano textures, heavy drumbeats, and distorted bass riffs develop in long tension arcs and gradually unfold a hypnotic pull. The project arose from Fries' long-standing desire to combine his piano playing with alternative rock and metal, which he has loved since his youth. It took years until he suddenly had a clear sound idea of how his rhythmic soundscapes could connect with hard beats and powerful bass riffs to create urgent, atmospheric music. Elements from club music, such as morphing beats and tension-filled breaks, also give the compositions an electronic energy. At Theater am Gleis, FRI3SER will present their eponymous debut album, produced by Grammy-winning New York producer John Davis. Lucca Fries has gained international recognition with his bands Hely and Ikarus.
