Description

With their long and successful career, Frente Cumbiero has become one of the most significant representatives in exploring the sonic identity of Cumbia. Led by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro (known to some from the projects Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas), Frente Cumbiero is considered a pioneer of the new Cumbia movement in Colombia. Notable live performances by Frente include MoMA in New York, the Roskilde Festival, Womad, Womadelaide, Womex, Sónar, and the Fuji Rock Festival. The band has toured Latin America, Africa, Europe, the USA, Russia, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The catalog of Frente Cumbiero includes collaborations with legendary musicians such as Mad Professor, the Kronos Quartet, Orquesta La Delio Valdez, and the Minyo Crusaders, demonstrating that they constantly push the boundaries of Cumbia and Latin American folk music in general. As a live band, Frente Cumbiero performs in a quartet format. With two wind instruments, live percussion, and electronic sounds or pre-recorded sequences, they bring a powerful tropical sound to the dance floor.
