Description
At the beginning of the new millennium, Carl Bischoff returns from the Brandenburg province to Berlin, but only to set out again soon after. His pilgrimage follows a daughter of a Kazakh shaman, who appeared out of nowhere and seems to know almost everything about him. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Curonian Spit, and the nuclear-contaminated, winter-cold steppe of Kazakhstan are the stages of their fairy-tale-like, magical yet doubtful love. A surreal ending is found in Aysha and Carl's story in the old atomic bomb test site, where Aysha's kin have taken refuge to prepare a sacrifice to save the Earth — while Carl loses himself to the world.
Is it love, doom — or conspiracy? This large, boundary-crossing novel begins with a small, healing wound caused by a kiss, and takes us halfway around the world. After the award-winning bestsellers "Kruso" and "Stern 111," Lutz Seiler continues to tell the story of his hero, where world history and personal destiny intersect.
