FIFTY SHADES OF VOLUNTEERING – We help wherever we’re needed
Volunteering does not have just one face. Sometimes it means handing a spoon to someone who can no longer hold it themselves. At other times, it means helping a wheelchair user negotiate stairs, comforting a lonely person through a volunteer dog, teaching a child how to save a human life, or standing by with a first-aid kit at a sporting event. Sometimes, simply being there is enough.
The exhibition ‘Fifty Shades of Volunteering’
presents real-life stories of people who devote their time, energy and hearts to others. Each photograph captures a different form of help – from informal care for loved ones, through volunteering for the elderly, assistive device hire, animal-assisted therapy and medical supervision, to first-aid training. Yet they all have one thing in common: they show that even a seemingly small act can make a huge difference.
Volunteering is not just a job. It is a willingness to stop, listen, lend a hand and be there when someone needs you. It often goes unnoticed, without applause or the spotlight. That is precisely why it deserves to be seen.
The photographs were taken during the day-to-day work of Červený trpaslík, z. ú. They are not staged – they capture genuine moments of help, trust, joy and human connection. They remind us that volunteering is not about exceptional people. It is about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Because anyone can help. And every story of help has its own unique flavour.
