Description

Krystyna Diethelm discovered paper cutting in the mid-90s and deepened her skills after a course with Ernst Oppliger at the School of Design in Bern. She moved from traditional paper cutting to colorful images with themes such as sports and movement. Her works depict groups of cyclists, gymnasts, skiers, butterflies, or cows. She uses black basic structures and colorful papers as well as watercolor paint. Her images are used in collections and by UNICEF Switzerland. She lives and works in Biel. Ernst Oppliger from Meikirch started with woodwork after his career in scissors cutting. He creates small and large sculptures in shapes like snails and spirals as well as word plays from various woods. He especially loves the Oloid, which he produces in different sizes and also calls a hand comforter. The inventor Paul Schatz describes the Oloid as "the inward folding of the cube." Besides his woodwork, he has also rediscovered paper cutting tools. Christian Oppliger, raised in an artisan family, started with point drawings in school. After an apprenticeship as a gardener, he works in a protected workshop and lives in a supervised community house in Bern. He has a sense for black-and-white distribution and masters various point structures that he skillfully employs. One drawing was selected by the Swiss Post for a special postage stamp in 2011.
