The three musicians of the trio formed in 2025, Feigenwinter-Moret-Pfammatter, are well-known protagonists of the Swiss music scene for their versatility. They delight themselves and their audience with songs from the extensive jazz repertoire, beyond standards, with themes that they develop into highly inspired, specific music of their trio through playful improvisations. The three musicians are long familiar with each other from other configurations: Moret and Pfammatter, for example, played together in singer Elina Duni's quartet. Feigenwinter and the drummer performed together in line-ups of trumpeter Peter Schärli, formed a trio over three decades with Bänz Oester, which once toured with Joe Lovano, and have also been heard with Moret in the saxophonist Sascha Schönhaus's quartet. Feigenwinter-Moret-Pfammatter fulfill a shared wish with their new project: "Unlike our own compositions, in our concept everyone has roughly the same distance and proximity to the source material, while original pieces are connected with ideas of how they should sound. This psychological level is absent here. We include songs in the repertoire that appeal to us and mean something to us, and that fuel our improvisational desire." The three musicians act on an equal footing, listening to each other and developing a wonderful drive in their finely balanced playing, a dense yet open interplay that leaves room for each to unfold. For example, in a deliberately slow ballad like Bill Frisell's "Where Do We Go," they can savor every note, play a piece by Bud Powell along the original, intensify a composition by Duke Ellington for urgency, or extend a song by Antônio Carlos Jobim from 1965 to over ten rich minutes, evoking new associations with each heartfelt repetition of the theme: The trio astonishingly manages to preserve the core of the pieces while making the music as current and personal as possible, turning it into an enjoyable listening journey through their vitality and dynamism.
