Description
The new rotating exhibition “Beloved Gabi. A girl from the Allgäu - murdered in Auschwitz” traces the short life of Gabriele Schwarz. In 1937, Gabi was born in Marktoberdorf, as the daughter of Lotte Schwarz. But: Lotte is a baptized Jew. To protect her daughter, she raises Gabi on a farm. Gabi experiences joyful years on the farm, where the farmers are caring foster parents. With neighborhood children and the farm dog, Gabi lives in the supposed idyll – until she is discovered in 1943 and deported to Auschwitz. The exhibition by Regina Gropper and Leo Hiemer shows Gabi's well-documented life in the Allgäu against the background of the inhumane Nazi laws. Many photographs or toys from Gabi's possessions bring us closer to the girl. Interviews with witnesses complement the exhibition. During this evening tour, museum director Friederike Lutz guides visitors through the new exhibition and also sheds light on the background of the all-pervasive Nazi propaganda. The tour is deliberately scheduled for 5 pm so that working people can also participate.
The tour is suitable for people aged 14 and over. The tour fee is 3 euros (museum entrance is free). We kindly ask for prior registration via Reservix.
