In the suburbs of Sydney, in a house that was once the center of social life, lives the lonely Elizabeth Hunter, a woman around whom a small universe once revolved. Once a stunning beauty with a sparkling spirit and iron will, she had mastered the art of controlling others throughout her life, but now she is at the mercy of her old age and her own past. A former star and patron, celebrated for her sarcasm, she remains surrounded by nurses, a housekeeper, and a lawyer, and like a silent queen in the midst of a hive, she tries to manage and torment those around her even in the final phase of her life.
