Exotic Inspirations

Description

When Avi Avital is heard in our city, the mandolin takes center stage, an instrument that rarely receives such presence in the concert hall. He is joined by British conductor Hugo Ticciati and the Kammerorchester Basel. Ticciati is one of the most adventurous musicians of his generation. His cross-genre, innovative programs, which often blend musical traditions with innovative soundscapes, are making waves internationally. On this evening, the shimmering soundscapes of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel in arrangements of their string quartets will contrast with the classical concert. Jonny Greenwood's music from 'There Will Be Blood' surprisingly fits in with its plucked and pizzicato sound. After the intermission, Joseph Haydn's Symphony No. 49 (2nd & 4th movements) follows – passionate and contrasting – before the evening concludes with the French chanson 'La vie en rose' by Edith Piaf.
