Elektra

Description

Unceasingly, Elektra conjures the past, her trauma, the burning desire for revenge: her father Agamemnon, barely returned from the Trojan War, is dead, murdered in the bath by her mother Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus. Richard Strauss composed music of cutting force, profound and relentless, which grants no salvation to any of the characters until Elektra's ecstatic final dance. Director Lydia Steier, after her visually striking "Der Rosenkavalier" at the Zurich Opera House, now dedicates herself to Strauss's dark counterpart. At the podium stands the Lausanne-born conductor and designated Zurich General Music Director Lorenzo Viotti. In the title role demanding all forces, Finnish soprano Miina-Liisa Värelä makes her Zurich debut.
