15.04.2026 - 14.04.2027 ECHOES - Sylvain Croci-Torti On the initiative of Le Manoir and with the support of the city of Martigny, the Walliser artist Sylvain Croci-Torti occupies public space with a series of monochrome flags installed on Avenue de la Gare and on the way to Château de la Bâtiaz. Sylvain Croci-Torti, who graduated in Fine Arts from the École cantonale d'art de Lausanne (ECAL) and was awarded the Swiss Art Award in 2016, is one of the key representatives of abstraction and monochrome in Switzerland. His relationship with painting is simple and direct; he sees it as the act of applying color to a canvas and always follows his protocol: he applies a single color to a often very large canvas, using a tool that leaves traces of his wide movement. As the minimalist painter Niele Toroni, who has greatly influenced him, said, he loves to "simply and without stories" repeat the same gesture and note that the imprint is never the same. It is the variations in the echoes, the differences in the gaps, that we are invited to observe. For this flag project in the city of Martigny, Croci-Torti proposes six monochrome colors, for which he has established a protocol in his protocol. On a Pantone (referenced color chart), he initially chose color 123, a warm yellow, as a starting point - 1, 2, 3. From there, he selected the shades in incremental steps, with a mathematical logic as the rule of play: 223 - a pink, 323 - a green, then less sharp colors, 423, 523, and 623. The flags printed with these clear color fields reveal the traces of the gesture and the gaps. The canvas is here spread out in the wind, still monumental, but freed from the stretcher and architectural constraints, it inscribes itself into the landscape like the banner of a formal and free radicality.
