Innovator | Tradition | Award-winning The Zuger Sinfonietta opens the season with «Entr’acte» by Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, conducted by principal conductor Daniel Huppert. Engaging with Joseph Haydn’s final string quartet, Shaw transforms its sonic world into a distinct, contemporary musical language. This gives rise to surprising breaks and tonal shifts that cast the familiar in a new light. Richard Strauss also proves himself an innovator: his First Horn Concerto, composed when he was just 18, remains rooted in the Classical tradition yet already points beyond it. Virtuoso passages and sweeping melodic arcs lend the work freshness and expressiveness. Pascal Deuber, winner of the renowned ARD Competition and known for his distinctive, free interpretations, lends the concerto additional radiance. Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6 was composed during a phase of artistic intensification and reorientation. In dialogue with the German tradition, particularly with Johannes Brahms, he developed a musical style that incorporates influences while bearing his own unmistakable signature. Rhythmic vitality, Bohemian timbres, and a clear formal structure combine to create a work of great coherence and energy.
