PROGRAM W. A. Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488 Mass in C Minor, K. 427 Mozart appears twice, in two faces. First, that of the day — the pianist of the academies, the man of the salon — but a Mozart who, at the center of his most elegant concerto, already opens a breach towards the shadow. Under the direction of Victorien Vanoosten, moving from brilliance to the abyss, from A major to F-sharp minor. Then the Mass in C Minor reveals the other face: the Mozart of the night, who left this work unfinished as one leaves a prayer in suspense. The Kyrie is a supplication, the Gloria an exaltation, all a declaration of love: gestures of the sacred, overflowing with a humanity and theatricality that make them vibrant. VOCAL ENSEMBLE OF LA COLLÉGIALE DE NEUCHÂTEL A variable geometry chamber choir, the Vocal Ensemble of La Collégiale de Neuchâtel was founded in 2011 by Fanny and Simon Peguiron, initially to animate worship cantatas through the works of J. S. Bach, and gradually around other specific projects. Its uniqueness lies in its reliance on the autonomy and personal participation of each chorister; the ensemble generally works without a conductor, in the manner of a chamber music formation. It performed in 2018 alongside the Vocal Ensemble of Erguël in a spatialized interpretation of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Palais des Congrès in Bienne, before reconstructing the St. Mark Passion with Musique des Lumières and Facundo Agudin the following year. It has also been heard several times at the Orgue en ville festival in Besançon, at the Abbey of Romainmôtier, at the Musical Gardens of Cernier, as well as in various programs with the Neuchâtel Symphony Orchestra.
