Finally, the famous Christmas film classic from 1973 has found its way onto the musical stage.
After the original DEFA film by Vaclav Vorlicek and Frantisek Pavlicek, a heartwarming and enchanting musical has been created with the well-known, hymn-like music of Karel Svoboda and other composers. For over 50 years, "Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" has been one of the most important rituals in the Christmas season for many generations.
It is simply a very special Aschenbrödel, one with whom one can still identify today: it is clever, confident, warm-hearted, can ride, shoot arrows, and climb.
Now, the audience and all "Christmas fans" can experience the magical story live as a romantic musical, in which Aschenbrödel, after her father's death, is mocked, exploited, and humiliated by her stepmother and stepsisters on her estate. Only the pigeons, horse Nikolaus, and three hazelnuts secretly help her—against all resistance from the malicious stepmother—to attend the king's ball, where the prince falls head over heels in love with her during a dance. During her escape, she loses her right shoe, prompting the prince to search for her, the love of his life. The musical was created with the approval of the DEFA Film Foundation, based on the film of the same name, in a staging by Stefan Zimmermann. All songs are performed live, and the actors also interpret them live. A two-and-a-half-hour musical Christmas dream for young and old that you should not miss.
