With Emanuel Ax, the Festival Strings Lucerne present one of the most important pianists of our time at the opening of the concerts at the KKL Lucerne. The multiple Grammy winner and recently named "Artist of the Year" by Musical America celebrates his long-overdue debut with the orchestra and interprets Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25 KV 503 – a masterpiece of majestic grandeur and festive brilliance. An exciting discovery awaits the audience in the second part of the concert with music by Vincenzo Righini, a surprisingly little-known contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven, who as Prussian court Kapellmeister was one of the defining musical personalities of his era. From here, the path leads to Beethoven, who wrote piano variations on a theme by Righini and with his First Symphony, the Festival Strings Lucerne and Daniel Dodds focus on the upcoming Beethoven year.
