Description

The aging and stubborn Don Pasquale dreams of marriage with a young woman. But the supposed bride turns out to be a clever intrigue: the confident Norina and the shady Dottor Malatesta play a cruel prank on the old man, in which comedy and injury intertwine. "Don Pasquale" is one of Gaetano Donizetti's last operas. In this dramma buffo, the entire mastery and fine human insight of the composer are once again consolidated, created shortly before the tragic end of his life. Director Christof Loy tells Donizetti's classic beyond all buffo clichés with a subtle, bittersweet note. The title role is played by Johannes Martin Kränzle, one of the most prominent character actors of our time.
