Description

The approximately 70-minute program without intermission presents the most famous scenes from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera The Magic Flute (KV 620) in a rarely performed arrangement for string quartet from 1800, whose arranger is unknown. In addition to the overture, the best-known arias and ensembles of the opera are performed in a concentrated, chamber music form. The music is complemented by humorous and informative texts by Mathias Kleiböhmer, which vividly tell the background, characters, and plot of the opera. Mozart's The Magic Flute, premiered in 1791 a few months before his death, uniquely combines fairy tale, mysticism, and humanity. Between light and darkness, love and trial, the idealistic Prince Tamino and the down-to-earth bird catcher Papageno meet on an adventurous journey. The opera combines serious and comic elements, popular appeal, and philosophical depth – and remains one of the most beloved works in music history. Help! Help!
The Birdcatcher
This portrait is enchantingly beautiful
You fine little dove
Among men who feel love
This path leads you to the goal
How strong is your magic tone
That sounds so wonderful
March of the Priests
O Isis and Osiris
Beware of women's tricks
Everyone feels the joys of love
The vengeance of hell
In these sacred halls
Oh, I feel it, it has disappeared
Shall I no longer see you, dear?
A girl or a little woman
