Description

Katharina Blum falls in love with the suspected murderer Ludwig Götten at a party. She quickly comes under suspicion of having helped him escape and is temporarily detained. While the "newspaper" portrays Götten unquestioningly as a murderer, Katharina also increasingly comes under scrutiny. With false claims, distorted statements, and sensationalist headlines, Katharina gradually becomes an ostracized outcast. While she is anonymously insulted and confronted with hatred, she tries to maintain her dignity. However, when her mother dies as a result of the events and one of the denouncing reporters of the "newspaper" becomes aggressive, Katharina makes a daring decision… HEINRICH BÖLL (1917–1985) is considered one of the most important German authors of the post-war period. In his 1974 story, he critically addresses the sensationalist press and tells of the resilience of a woman who knows her self-worth.
