Maria Antonia Räss (1893-1980), a show sticker from Hof Grüt in Eggerstanden, hidden amidst the waves of the inner-Rhodesian Appenzell, who at 27 years old set sail alone to America with nothing but an English steel embroidery needle, a bundle of fine linen from France, and her Appenzeller costume. Her embroiderers threaded the fine fabric, admired and worn by celebrities like Eleanor Roosevelt, Julie Andrews, and Isaac Stern. She shared a lifelong friendship with Coco Chanel and Walt Disney. Margrit Schriber's novel published in 2024 caused a sensation. The music curator of the Appenzell Forum, Andrea Wiesli, transformed it into a musical sound chronicle, which will premiere in Gonten.
