Description

Starting in 1933, Giacometti gradually returned to working from the model. However, the decisive phase of his mature work only began in pre-war Paris, when he developed tiny, spindly figurines and grappled with the fading of existence. After his stay in Switzerland, he overcame compulsive shrinking and gradually found his way to the iconic sculptures of his later work. The lecture presents a comparison of Giacometti's life and work up to around 1950.
