Music: Vasko Damjanov Why do ostriches put their heads in the sand? Why does a look from an elephant often carry a quiet sadness? What do monkeys think about the world around them? And why do crabs move from shell to shell as if searching for a better home? Amidst all these questions stands Panther Sophia – leader, guide, and wise observer. She accompanies the wild animals through the challenges of their lives, listens, asks questions, and searches with them for answers to the big themes of our existence: What does freedom mean? Who am I – and who am I allowed to be? How do I learn to accept the cycle of life? The speech of the panther is much more than a collection of animal stories. The piece is a poetic-philosophical reflection on the world and our place in it. The ensemble of the Junge LTT follows the tracks of the animals, reads their signs, and discovers surprising parallels between animal instinct and human thinking. Perhaps, so the quiet realization goes, we are closer to animals than we think – in our fears, our desires, and in the search for meaning.
