Presented by the Sinfonietta Bern Ensemble in the Paul Sacher Hall at Don Bosco Basel, this program invites audiences of all ages to rediscover the unforgettable atmosphere of the famous Harry Potter films through their most iconic musical themes and relive the emotions, adventures, and magic of this story. The film music was masterfully composed by John Williams. The composer wrote the music in Los Angeles and Tanglewood before it was recorded in September 2001 at Abbey Road Studios and Air Lyndhurst Studios in London. The film features numerous characteristic leitmotifs, most of which were revisited in the second part of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The main composition, Hedwig’s Theme, appears in altered form in all films. The soundtrack was released on CD on October 30, 2001. On December 14, 2001, the soundtrack was awarded Gold in Canada with 50,000 units sold, and in January 2002 in Japan, with 100,000 units sold. In 2002, John Williams was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Score, but the award went to Howard Shore for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, whose music is also featured in our concerts.
