Hanna Glawari is the woman around whom everything revolves: She is emancipated, beautiful, clever, and heiress to 20 million. She is desired in Paris and yet is only meant for one man, who absolutely cannot bring himself to say "I love you." Director Barrie Kosky staged this double-edged successful operetta of early modernism with great opulence. Alongside quirky slapstick and revue flair, he focuses on the waltz-like nostalgia and the emotional depth of the piece. Soprano Diana Damrau makes her role debut in the title role in this revival.
