Market fair in the London district of Soho: Here, the underworld and home of figures on the edge of society unfold. Here, Jonathan Jeremiah Peachum's business thrives. As the head of the beggars' mafia, he not only holds the monopoly on begging licenses but also outfits the beggars in his boutique with pitiful fashion and accessories. He owes his success in no small part to the charm and business acumen of his only child, Polly. No wonder he perceives Polly's marriage to the well-known city gangster Macheath alias Mackie Messer as an existential threat. While Peachum searches for ways to eliminate his rival, Polly, Mrs. Peachum, and Macheath's old love Jenny make things happen. THE THREEPENNY OPERA, Bertolt Brecht's most famous work, was first seen in 1935 at the Pfauenbühne. The widely celebrated production by the Prague theater group D35 visited Zurich and provoked a strong reaction from the right-wing National Front: street protests ultimately forced the cancellation of the guest performance. General Information
