In 2021, Die Brieffreundschaft premiered. The markus&markustheaterkollektiv built pen pal relationships — with four women serving life sentences for murder. The correspondence was the only means for the joint development of the show and at the same time a central stylistic element. The most frequently asked question after performances is: "Do you still write letters to your pen pals now?" Yes. In Die Brieffreundschaft II, it becomes visible what happens in five invisible years in prison. What is five years in terms of time when the horizon is life imprisonment? While 1,825 days have passed for us since then — it is written in their annual letter how many days they have already served until release, then and now: 0. And how many days are left until release: death.
