During Advent, we are again offering a special movie evening:
Marie-Luise Bolte will provide live piano accompaniment for the film "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" by Lotte Reiniger from 1926. The characters of this so-called silhouette animation film or shadow play are not drawn. Flat puppets made from individually cut-out cardboard parts were animated using stop-motion techniques. The film is the oldest surviving animated feature film worldwide. It incorporates several fairy tales from "One Thousand and One Nights," including "Aladdin and the Magic Lamp" and "The Magic Horse."
Pianist, organist, and composer Marie-Luise Bolte has been scoring silent films since 1990, creating an incredibly long list. She has also written articles and essays published in specialized books and the CineGraph lexicon. Werner Grassmann, founder of the Abaton Cinema, considered Marie-Luise Bolte to be part of the Hamburg film scene. She is a regular guest at the Metropolis Cinema.
