Description

This concert presents a thematic journey into how composers envision death, starting with Schubert's famous string quartet 'Der Tod und das Mädchen', which initially depicts a girl fearing the 'wild skeleton man'. The program then offers serene sounds that portray an unexpected view of dying, complemented by works from Caroline Shaw and Joanna Marsh that reflect on life's end. The performance includes variations by Arensky on Tchaikovsky and a piece by Adès honoring the British pastoral landscape. The concert lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, with a pause, and features a talented ensemble of violinists, violists, cellists, and a double bassist.
