Immerse yourself in the past at the Obertorturm and discover how people once lived and worked in this impressive landmark. The tower, built in the 13th century, was expanded in the 16th century with three additional floors and converted into a residential and watchtower.
High above, on the 10th floor, explore the former tower guard's apartment and learn exciting details about the life of the tower guard and his family. The nearly 500-year-old clock mechanism still fascinates today – and is still wound by hand every day. A look into the former cells also gives an impression of how deprivation-filled imprisonment must have been in the Middle Ages. During the Advent season, a special view awaits at the very top: enjoy the unique view from high above of the atmospheric Aarau Christmas lights and the roofs of the old town – a very special perspective on the Christmas Aarau.
